Veneers | Desert Smiles | Avondale, AZ

Monday, February 21st, 2011

My name is LeAnn and I had a front tooth that died when I was about 17 years old that need to be replaced. When I had the tooth replaced; I told my dentist that it was too white and as I got older, my other teeth yellowed and my replacement tooth stood out like a neon sign.  With that one tooth the way that it was, I had to hide my smile, which was hard for me because I’m the kind of person that laughs all the time. That one tooth hindered my ability to enjoy myself,  so my husband offered to redo my teeth for me.

I went on the web looking for a dentist in my area and found a website that talked about all the different types of procedures that you could do and at the end of the website, the only recommended dentist listed was Dr. Wilcox. I called him and had veneers put on my teeth.  The procedure was wonderful, I didn’t have any problems, it was very comfortable, everyone was very nice and didn’t have any of the trauma of someone working on your teeth. It was wonderful. I have not had any problems with Desert Smiles Dentistry. After the procedure I have had comments all the time from people anywhere from the teenager behind the fast food counter to a couple that came to our garage sale and they would tell me “your teeth were beautiful, they’re beautiful.”

TMJ | Desert Smiles | Phoenix AZ

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

My name is Virginia S. and I decided to come to Dr. Wilcox because I had  a TMJ problem and I needed to have Full Mouth Reconstruction. I have been phobic of dentistry and when I came to see Dr. Wilcox his smile was very comforting. I am happy with the results.  The results were great and Dr. Wilcox is very patient.

I don’t have to use Sedation Dentistry in order to go to the dentist.  I like it here and I am very satisfied with the results.

I love everything about my results.  Starting off, when I am talking to someone they always make a comment about my teeth!  Not only are they beautiful, but all the work that was done was good. My mouth is functional, healthy, and I have no problems with them.  I don’t even think about the dental appliances in my mouth that are not mine. I think they are mine, and it makes me smile.

I am very happy with Desert Smiles and I want everyone to know how pleasant it is. The atmosphere…. to come here to be well taken care of, you’re not just a number, you’re not just a patient, you are someone that has a need that will be addressed and taken care of. Everyone will be very happy. I love it here. I will not go to any other dentist ever again.  I am going to stay here and so do my children.

Veneers | Desert Smiles | Buckeye AZ

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

My name is Michael D. and I am from Buckeye, AZ. I’ve been coming to this office for 20 to 25 years.

I had veneers for my top 4 teeth.  Over the years of lifting weights I had worn down my top four teeth, now they are replaced and looking good. I can actually smile again.

What’s good about it is that I am no longer insecure about smiling in front of a camera.  My experience here has been great, they are like family.  I have known all of the girls and Dr. Wilcox for about 25 years now.  Not only are they really professional, but they have grown on me like a family.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Well, sleep apnea is a medical condition so dentists are not qualified to diagnose it, it’s a medical diagnoses but we often times can help greatly in the treatment. One of the biggest cause of sleep apnea is our closing of the airway while we are asleep and apnea is really a breath not breathing for more then ten seconds.

What is that? When we lie down and go to sleep and the tissues in the roof of our mouths relax and the biggest culprit of the airway tend to close and tongue relaxes and tends to drop back farther in the throat. What we do as dentists is we make appliances for our patients that they can wear, they help keep the lower jaw in position and tongue in position to keep it from dropping back and clogging up the airway. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine for mild to moderate levels of apnea for simple snoring recommends the dental devices as the first choice of treatment.

The CPAP has been the standard of treatment for sleep apnea forever and is still the best treatment possible and especially for those with severe levels. Many people maybe sixty percent or more of people that are diagnosed and placed on a CPAP aren’t able to wear it successfully for a variety of reasons so dental appliances compliances are very high because they are much more comfortable and in severe cases another thing we are doing more of is called co-therapy where were using the dental appliances to sort of stabilize the jaw and the airway using the CPAP with it and your able to turn down the pressures of the CPAP and it’s a lot more comfortable and easier for people to wear it in a severe condition.
